The Municipality stretches from the Nungua Kpone coastline northwards to Adenta and point just south of Dodowa with its population concentrated virtually in Tema and Ashaiman.  It has nevertheless, some rural areas such as Frafrah, Katamanso and Appolonaia. 

The development of the Municipality is in the direction of Manufacturing Industrialization and the Service Industry.  the key elements in the planned accelerated growth of Municipality include the following:

Expansion and Rehabilitation of Tema Harbour, including Inland Shipping Terminals.

Completion of the Export Processing Zone.

Tourism development, taking advantage of the clean sandy beaches, historical sites and high quality Hotels and Restaurants.
